I doubt it. But then again I live in a world of no regular paycheck and you have a job.

According to what I have read may you live in interesting times is an old Chinese curse.

I have often wondered why it would be a curse when you think it should be an opportunity.

Then again somebody once told me that in Chinese you can use the same word for crisis and opportunity.

These are certainly interesting times and most people aren’t prepared for any career changes in their lives. It is as if they are oblivious to the world that is happening around them.

Living their lives in a naïve cocoon believing that the past continues on a regular path.

They have a job and think that everything will stay the same in a world that constantly changes. They lull themselves into a feeling of false security.

The worst career plan is a belief in the career paths of the past.

In the Old Normal we would read about a local company acquiring another company and say that’s great. They must be doing really well.

In the New Normal that acquisition is generally followed by consolidation and the launching of many comfortable employees into the anxiety of the world of transition.

I’m often amazed that in the 14th year of LinkedIn how many people have profiles that clearly convey I will just get something up there. I will make it better when I am looking for a job as if that event will always be in their control.

When I’m recruiting I’m constantly amazed about how inaccessible people are. They don’t post their email on their profile so you can’t contact them without being connected on LinkedIn.

I can’t believe how many people don’t sync their LinkedIn messages to their emails.

I got a message from a young person the other day. She apologized for being horrible with signing in to her LinkedIn account this month. This month?

In a world of instant messaging you will check out LinkedIn occasionally when you get around to it. Not too many career opportunities come through instant messaging.

Most people aren’t prepared for the future shock until discomfort enters their lives.

This happens when they lose their jobs when economic downturns and political unrest changes their world.

If you are prepared for the future you will be prepared if interesting times do become a curse.
